The Olympics Centennial Suite was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee to commemorate the centenary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894. The Olympics Centennial series brings together 50 works by artists from different countries, representing a wide range of contemporary artistic trends. To select the works, the IOC invited two famous French art critics, Gerard Xuriger and Francis Parin. It took more than two years to compile the series, which was supposed to present in just 50 works the whole variety of creative searches of the last five decades, from figurative to abstraction, from hyperrealism to minimalism, from the new figurative school to abstract expressionism, as well as geometricism, conceptual art and body art. It was decided that each of the selected authors should create a two-dimensional work. Many of the artists, understanding the message behind the Olympic movement, paid tribute to its spirit while remaining true to their signature style. The IOC printed each of the 50 works in the series in an edition of 250 copies. The works are numbered and signed by the authors.
