Author of subject-thematic compositions and still lifes, landscape painter. He received his first lessons in fine art at the Association of Artists in Pyatigorsk (1944-46) from I.N. Fomino. He studied at the Rostov Art School named after B.M. Grekov (1946-51) with V.G. Len and A.M. Chernykh. Member of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR since 1976. Since 1957. takes constant part in zonal, republican, all-Union, and foreign art exhibitions. For about five years he traveled with the writer A.A. Ter-Markaryan to the harvest in the region, created graphic series of leading workers, village workers for publication in the newspaper "Molot". He has an award from the Ministry of Culture “Excellence in Rural Culture”. Since 1954, V.I. Akimenko has participated in regional art exhibitions in the Don, showing mainly landscapes of the Don and the North Caucasus. In the 50-60s. Trips to the I. Repin House of Artists' Creativity "Academic Dacha" had a great influence on improving the artist's professional skills. Images of Central Russian nature acquire no less importance in the artist’s work than landscapes of southern Russia. Works are presented in the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad
