From 1914 he studied fine arts in St. Petersburg, in evening classes of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, and from 1915 - in a private studio. From 1916 to 1918 studied at the New Art Workshop in the early 1920s. continued his studies at VKHUTEMAS. His teachers, among others, were M.V. Dobuzhinsky, A.E. Yakovlev and V.I. Shukhaev. In 19922 -1923. Akimov began his career as a book illustrator and theater artist. In 1927, the first personal exhibition took place in Leningrad. In 1929 he began working as a theater director at the Moscow Theater. E. Vakhtangov. The first design work in the theater was carried out with directors and artists of the “left” direction, including N. Evreinov, N. Petrov and K. Khokhlov. Since 1955 he has taught, since 1960 he has been a professor at the Leningrad Theater Institute, founder of the art and production department.
