Lived and worked in Amsterdam. Registered as an artist from 1850 to 1865. In 1866 he opened his own store. He was engaged in painting landscapes, marinas, and organized exhibitions: in Amsterdam from 1835 to 1852, also in The Hague in 1843 and in Groningen in 1841 and 1854. The works of L. Arends are represented in many museum collections in Western Europe.
