Russian and French artist, graphic artist, sculptor, set designer. He began his art education in Drawing classes in Rostov-on-Don (1907-1908), where he studied with A. S. Chinenov. In 1910, he moved to Moscow, became close to S. N. Pimenov, attended the workshop of K. A. Korovin at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1910-1913). In 1913, he went to Paris, where he joined the circle of artists of the Paris school, becoming acquainted with Osip Zadkin, Amedeo Modigliani and Chaim Soutin. Since 1923 he lived in Paris. He was a member of the Union of Russian Artists in France and the Association of Animal Artists. After the Second World War, he concentrated mainly on painting. His work was dominated by scenes of motherhood, images of harlequins and musicians, still lifes and religious compositions; he rarely turned to landscape. In 1946-1958, he held about twenty solo exhibitions in Nice, Carcassonne, Cannes, Montpellier, Toulouse and Paris. The artist's works are represented in a number of museum collections, including the National Museum of Modern Art and the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. His works are extremely rare in Russian museum collections.
