People's Artist of the USSR (1956), Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947), laureate of USSR State Prizes, professor - master of picturesque landscapes and genres in the spirit of the "Union of Russian Artists" ("allies"). Born in Moscow on December 12 (24), 1862 in the family of an official. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (MUZHVZ; 1877–1888), in particular with A.K. Savrasov and V.D. Polenov. Lived in Moscow. He was a member of the “Association of Itinerants”, as well as one of the organizers and most characteristic artists of the “Union of Russian Artists” (since 1903). Since 1922 he was a member of the AHRR. . Laureate of the Stalin Prize in 1943. He worked a lot as a teacher: from 1894 he taught at the Moscow School of Higher Painting and Painting and other schools. The author's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, regional and regional museums of the Russian Federation.
