Baranov-Rossine Vladimir Davidovich (1888, Tauride province - 1944, France).

Painter, sculptor. He studied at the Odessa Art School (1903-1908), at the Academy of Arts (1908-1909). Together with D.D. Burlyuk, A.V. Lentulov and A.A. Exter participated in the first exhibitions of Russian avant-garde in Little Russia. In 1910-1917 lived in Paris, traveled around Europe. Exhibited at the Paris Salons, Zurich and Amsterdam. He gained fame thanks to a newspaper review by G. Apollinaire. In 1917 he returned to Russia. He was close to the Suprematism of K.S. Malevich. He headed a painting workshop at the Academy of Arts, was a professor at VKHUTEMAS, and was a member of the board for arts and art industry affairs at the People's Commissariat for Education. In the 1920s developed the idea of ​​a synthesis of music and color, and in 1924 organized the “Optophonic Color-Visual Concert” at the Bolshoi Theater using the “optophonic” clavier he invented. Since 1925 he lived in Paris. Retrospective exhibitions of Baranov-Rossinet were held in galleries in London, Paris, and the State Tretyakov Gallery (2004). His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Ludwig Museum in Cologne.
