BER (Beer) Wilhelm Amandus (Beer Wilhem Amandus) Painter, graphic artist. He acquired his first skills in painting and drawing under the guidance of the artist’s great-uncle A. Radl. He studied at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt with E. von Steinle and J. Becker. Lived in Frankfurt. Together with E. von Steinle, he created murals in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne; designed decorations for the Frankfurt Opera. Since 1867 he regularly came to Russia; lived and worked for a long time in the Smolensk province, where he stayed in the house of the painter S. A. Baryshnikov, and in Ukraine. He painted everyday scenes from village life. For his love for Russia he received the nickname “Russen Beer” (“Russian Bear”). He was engaged in teaching activities in Frankfurt.
