Born in St. Petersburg in 1850, he completed a course at the St. Petersburg Commercial School and in 1870 entered the Academy of Arts, receiving silver medals in 1874 and 1877. In 1879, he was awarded the title of class artist for the genre painting “Memory.” Since 1880 N.G. Bogdanov regularly exhibits his canvases at exhibitions of the Association of the Wanderers and the Academy of Arts. In 1882, N. Bogdanov won the Academy competition in the section of household painting (the painting “Family Scene in the Garden” was presented) and thanks to this victory he went to Germany, France and Italy to get acquainted with the work of European artists. From a foreign business trip N.G. Bogdanov returns with a large number of studies and sketches that will be used in his subsequent works. Today, the artist’s paintings are kept in many state museums and private collections.
