Brandes Heinrich Georg (1803-1868).

German painter. From 1823 to 1825 he studied at the Munich Academy of Arts under the direction of Peter von Cornelius. He devoted himself to historical painting, but then completely focused on landscapes. Roman Campaign After the Academy he went to Tyrol. His paintings of the Bavarian mountains earned the artist a reputation as an excellent landscape painter. He created a number of still lifes and portraits. In 1830 he visited Italy and spent a lot of time in Rome. Upon returning to his homeland, he settled in Brunswick, where he became a teacher of painting and drawing, as well as a gallery curator at the Duke Anton Ulrich Museum. In 1845, together with Neumann, he restored the frescoes in Brunswick Cathedral. In 1854 he became a professor. The artist's works are now kept in the Braunschweig City Museum and the Duke Anton Ulrich Museum.
