Bronnikov Fedor Andreevich (1827-1902)

Bronnikov Fedor Andreevich - artist, professor of historical painting. Born in Shadrinsk (now Kurgan region) in the family of an icon painter. Bronnikov studied drawing and painting under the guidance of his father, an icon painter, and at the Academy of Arts under the guidance of Markov. In 1851 he received silver medals: a small one for portraits from life, and a large one for “The Return of Ulysses to His Home.” The following year he received a second gold medal for the program painting “The Sermon of St. John the Baptist in the Desert”; in 1853 - a large gold medal for the program painting “The Joy of the Mother of All Who Sorrow.” In 1854 he went to Rome as a pensioner of the Academy. In 1863 he was recognized as a professor of historical painting for the painting: “Horace reads his satires to Maecenas.” Until 1881, Bronnikov exhibited his paintings at academic exhibitions, and from this year - at exhibitions of the Itinerants. In the Museum of Alexander III there are Bronnikov’s paintings “Christians before death” and “Street of an Italian town”, in the Tretyakov Gallery: “Spiritual Procession in Italy”, “Pythagorean Hymn to the Rising Sun”, “Cursed Field”, “Consecration of Hermes”. His works are in museums and private collections in Denmark, Hungary, Italy, England, and America.
