Bryullov Karl Pavlovich

Bryullov Karl Pavlovich (1799, St. Petersburg-1852, Marciano, near Rome).

Professor of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Member of several Italian academies. The greatest artist of the Romantic era. A brilliant portrait painter, a master of large ceremonial and intimate psychological portraits. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1809-21) with A.I. Ivanova, A.E. Egorova. Participated in the paintings of St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum.
