Russian and Soviet artist, painter, graphic artist, illustrator, teacher, professor at the LIZhSA named after I. Repin and the Leningrad Art and Art Pedagogical University named after V. I. Mukhina, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, member of the Leningrad organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. He studied at the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts, in the workshop of V.V.Mate. In 1912, Buchkin was awarded a prize for a large series of etchings - he received the right to travel to Europe, visited Berlin and Paris. After the Revolution, he collaborated with periodicals and large publishing houses. The artist's greatest fame came from his portraits of cultural and artistic figures. He painted from life of Vladimir Lenin and Fyodor Chaliapin. The artist's works are in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, other museums in Russia, and in numerous private collections in Russia, Finland, Great Britain, the USA, and France.
