Graphic artist, porcelain artist, theater artist. In 1896 - 1897 he studied at the Drawing School of the OPKh in St. Petersburg, in the 1897 - 1900s at the school - workshop of M.K. Tenisheva at I.E. Repina. In 1902-07 he studied ceramics at the Art Pottery Factory of S. I. Mamontov in Moscow under the direction of P. K. Vaulin, in 1907-14 - in the workshop "Goldwein and Vaulin" near St. Petersburg; in 1913-17 he directed the school of enamel painting in Rostov Veliky and Torzhok. Chekhonin participated in the decoration of the Metropol hotel in Moscow (1902-07), executed majolica panels for the church for the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov in Moscow and the Life Guards of the Moscow Regiment in St. Petersburg (1912-15), in 1905-07 he published satirical drawings in the magazines "Spectator", "Mask", etc. Since 1912 member of the World of Art association. In 1917-20s. - teacher at the Central School of Technical Drawing of A. L. Stieglitz in Petrograd, in 1918-23 and 1925-27 - artistic director of the State Porcelain Factory in Leningrad, in 1923-25 - hands of the artistic department of Novgubfarfora (Volkhov Porcelain and Faience Factory). Chekhonin is one of the creators of products made from domestic materials, with new themes and painting techniques (the so-called propaganda porcelain), the author of portraits of M. Gorky (1921), A.K. Glazunov (1922) and others, the first Soviet coats of arms, seals, posters; was engaged in book and magazine graphics (magazine "Plamya", "Moscow", publishing houses Lengiz and Gosizdat), design of performances. Ch. -participant of St. 50 ros. and foreign exhibitions (since 1908), including in Leipzig (1914), Berlin and Florence (1922), New York (1924), Paris (1925, 2 gold medals), etc. Since 1928 he lived in Paris.
