Cherkassky Abram Markovich (1886, Bila Tserkva - 1967, Alma-Ata)

Soviet artist, painter, and teacher. People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1963). He studied at the Kyiv Drawing School (1901-1909) with A.A. Murashko and N.K. Pimonenko and at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1909-1917) with N.N. Dubovsky, V.E. Savinsky, Ya.F. Tsionglinsky. Since 1917 he lived in Vinnitsa, a member of the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine. In 1926-1937 - teacher and professor at the Kyiv Art Institute (since 1935). Paintings by A.M. Cherkassky are kept in the Kazakhstan Art Gallery named after T. Shevchenko in Alma-Ata, and the State Museum of Ukrainian Art in Kyiv.
