People's Artist of the RSFSR. The muralist, painter, author of the books “Technique of Wall Paintings” and “The Art of Frescoes in Ancient Rus'”, trained a whole generation of muralists. Born in the village. Nikolsky, Borisoglebsk district, Tambov province, in 1892 he moved with his mother to Moscow. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with V.A. Serova, A.E. Arkhipova, K. Korovina. (1901-1911) ; in Paris at the Academy of R. Julien (1910), at the Higher Art School at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where he worked on etching in the workshop of Professor V.V. Mate and studied the technique of monumental painting in the workshop of Professor D.I. Kiplika (1911-1915). Member of the societies “Union of Workers of Applied Arts and Art Industry” (1919), “World of Art” (1921), one of the founders of the “Makovets” association (1922-26), member of the OMH (1928-29). Research fellow, corresponding member of the State Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1927-30). He worked a lot in the field of restoration. From 1919 to 1921 he served in the Red Army, then was a professor in the department of technique of monumental painting at the Moscow VKHUTEIN, where he worked until 1930. In the late 30s and 40s he taught at the Moscow State Institute named after Surikov. In his graphic and painting works, Chernyshev’s favorite theme is images of children and teenagers, landscapes, images of ancient Russian painters. The works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the largest museums in Russia and the CIS countries, as well as in museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
