Derain Andre

Derain Andre (1880-1954).

French painter, graphic artist, theater decorator, sculptor, ceramist. In 1898-1899, together with Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet, he attended the private art school of Eugene Carriere. In 1900 he met Maurice de Vlaminck, with whom he had a long friendship. In 1905-1906 he created his wonderful views of Hyde Park and the Thames embankments. In 1905 he participated in the Autumn Salon in London. In 1906 he met Pablo Picasso and was influenced by Cubism. In 1928 he received the Carnegie Prize and began to exhibit in England, Germany, and the USA. In the 1930s he moved to Chambrucy. In 1919 S.P. Diaghilev invites A. Derain to work on sketches of scenery and costumes for the ballet “The Magic Shop” choreographed by L.F. Meat.
