Graduate of VKHUTEIN (1923–30), where he studied with D. Shterenberg, P. Pavlinov and A. Shevchenko. The son of a famous Smolensk photographer. He received his initial artistic education at the Smolensk studio of Proletkult, where he was a student of V. Shtranikh, N. Yablonsky, B. Rybchenkov. He is known as a master of lyrical landscape, as well as the author of female portraits: “Parachutist”, “University Girl”, “Miner Woman”, “Nenets Girl with a Book”, “Shura Tian”. Since 1933 he has been a regular participant in all-Union art exhibitions. Personal exhibitions were held in Moscow in 1938, 1943, 1950, 1956 and 1964. The works were acquired by the State Tretyakov Gallery, as well as by the museums of Kostroma, Novorossiysk, and Sevastopol. The bulk of the artist’s heritage (over 300 works) is located in the Smolensk State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve.
