Drachenko Petr Gerasimovich

Ukrainian painter and teacher. After graduating from a vocational art school, in 1930 he became a student at the painting department of the Odessa Art Institute. In 1940, P.G. Drachenko became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. By this time he was already taking an active part in art exhibitions. Participant of the Great Patriotic War. After being wounded he was captured. In 1945 he was liberated by the Allies and returned to his homeland. Since 1946 Drachenko P.G. worked as a teacher of drawing and painting at the Kyiv Art School. In addition to landscape, he also worked in the genres of still life, portrait, historical and genre painting. In 2003, a posthumous exhibition of Pyotr Gerasimovich Drachenko took place in Kyiv. The artist’s works are presented in museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
