Fedorova (Ionova) Maria Alekseevna. Russian landscape artist, in the last years of her life she was engaged in icon painting. From 1878 she studied at the drawing school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts in St. Petersburg. From 1881 she attended the Academy of Arts as a volunteer student, but did not complete the academy course. In 1890 she received a small and in 1891 a large encouragement medal from the Academy of Arts. Student of Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin. In 1892 she received a certificate as a teacher of drawing in women's gymnasiums. Traveled a lot around Russia. She took part in exhibitions of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists, the Moscow Society of Art Lovers and the Academy of Arts. In 1898, I.K. Aivazovsky sent a petition to the Council of the Academy of Arts to award her an honorary title for her success in painting. After the revolution (in the early 20s) she emigrated to Finland. Since 1933 she was a member of the Society of Russian Artists in Finland; exhibited her landscapes at the 1st exhibition of the Society (1933). Fedorova’s paintings are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, museums in Taganrog and Ryazan, and in private collections in Russia and Finland.
