Felten Wilhelm Frantsevich

Felten Wilhelm Frantsevich (1947, St. Petersburg - 1929, Munich).

He studied drawing and painting in the workshop of A. O. Charlemagne. In 1867 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, but did not complete the full course of study. In 1870 he moved to Munich, where he continued his education under the guidance of professors at the Munich Academy of Arts, in particular W. Dietz. Lived and worked in Munich. He took part in academic exhibitions in St. Petersburg. He painted landscapes and genre scenes; the artist became particularly famous for his paintings on historical subjects of the 17th and 18th centuries - with scenes of hunting, court life, and soldiers' bivouacs, which were highly valued by art lovers and collectors. They find many parallels in Russian and German art at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, for example with the work of A. Menzel or the masters of the World of Art association. Felten's works are in many private and museum collections, including the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, the State Gallery in Prague, and the Buffalo Academy of Arts.
