Feshin Nikolay Ivanovich

Feshin Nikolai Ivanovich (1881, Kazan - 1955, Santa Monica, near Los Angeles).

Painter and teacher. In 1895-1900 studied at the Kazan Art School, then at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg in the workshop of I.E. Repin (1900-1909). In 1908 he received 1st prize at the competition named after. A.I. Kuindzhi for the painting “Cheremis Wedding”, in 1909 - the title of artist and the right to retire abroad. Since 1909 he lived in Kazan, led still life and full-scale classes at the Kazan Art School. In 1923 he moved to the USA. Since 1908 he took part in many exhibitions. In 1923, his personal exhibition was held at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1981, the Fechin Institute was founded in the artist's home in Taos. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums of Russia.
