Filippovsky Grigory Georgievich (1909–1987)

Graphic artist. In 1924-1929 he studied at VKHUTEMAS-VKHUTEIN with A.A. Osmerkina, S.V. Gerasimov and A.D. Wood. Since 1925 - participant of regional and all-Union exhibitions. In the 1930s, he began working at the Academia publishing house, where books by Raffaello Giovagnoli, William Shakespeare, and Paul Scarron with his illustrations were published. In 1934-1937, the author's works began to be acquired by major museum collections. In 1938, the Academia publishing house was liquidated, and Filippovsky was repressed. In 1946 he was rehabilitated. In 1946-1947 he worked as an artist at the Syktyvkar Theater. In 1949, at the request of Kukryniksov, he returned to Moscow, where he again took up book illustration. The artist’s works are in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the State Literary Museum.
