Frenz Rudolf Fedorovich

We rightly classify Rudolf Fedorovich Frenz, who was born in Berlin and graduated from the Academy of Arts there, as a Russian artist. And not even because he accepted Russian citizenship. The more important thing is that all his work took place in our country. He became one of the writers of everyday life in Russian life and lived his entire life in the village of Roshal, near Gatchina, near St. Petersburg. R.F. became famous Frenz, first of all, by the characteristics of his talent and social position. The artist was good at scenes that were in one way or another connected with the depiction of dogs: Hunter with dogs, Hunters with greyhounds, Hunting a fox, Cozy corner, On the hunt, After the hunt, Great Dane, Pointing dog, Before the hunt. The stable position in the artistic circles of R.F. Frenz took over thanks to the highest orders from members of the imperial house. At first, the artist painted a number of paintings for Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, depicting him in the cycle “Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich on the hunt.” For several years he was a member of the retinue of the future Emperor Alexander III, taking part in frequent maneuvers. The artist wrote a lot for the soul: A peasant's yard in Finland, Portraits of horses, Mother's joy, A family of chickens, Entrance to a village, Bonfire, Winter, Winter landscape. R.F. Frenz participated not only in academic and international exhibitions, which was natural for him. His paintings were also presented at the exhibitions of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions. Academician R.F. Frenz became only in 1912, so being close to the powers that be did not always bring any benefits, extraordinary awards or other preferences.
