Friez Emil Othon (1879-1949).

O. Friez began his artistic education in Le Havre in 1892 at the School of Fine Arts in the atelier of C.-M. Lhuillier, where he met R. Dufy and J. Braque, with whom he later had a long friendship. In 1897 he received a scholarship and studied for 6 years with L. Bonn at the National Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris. At this time he met A. Matisse, C. Camoan, A. Marquet, A.-C. Mangenom. O. Friez's artistic debut took place in 1900 at the Salon of the Society of French Artists. In 1904 it was exhibited for the first time at the Autumn Salon, and in 1906 at the Salon of Independents. In 1911, O. Friez traveled to Portugal, and in 1912 – to Belgium. Participated in the Armory Show in New York. From 1912 to 1921 he taught at the Modern Academy in Paris, from 1925 at the Scandinavian Academy and from 1944 at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. The most important works of the late period include the design of decorations for the Chaillot Palace as part of the World Exhibition in Paris, together with R. Dufy. Works are in the Center J. Pompidou, the Grenoble Museum, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Museum of Modern Art in Troyes.
