He attended courses at the State Center for Contemporary Art on Yakimanka and took private painting lessons. The artist’s personal exhibitions were repeatedly held in Moscow, Kyiv, and Odessa. Gankevich’s works are a “physical culture salute” to the aesthetics of the early Soviet “spaces of rejoicing,” successfully described by Mikhail Ryklin in his essay of the same name. The new painting series by Anatoly Gankevich is really a set of quotes from the history of art of the 20-30s of the last century. It makes you remember the classics of the genre - the bright monumental mosaics of the Moscow metro, this communist temple complex, anticipating the onset of a happy and serene “Tomorrow”; utopian monumentalism of VDNKh, happy faces smiling from early Soviet posters. In his new works, Anatoly Gankevich pays great attention to the texture of color and composition. The artist’s palette in the new series has become noticeably brighter and richer, and this volume of color enhances the artistic effect of the works. Today, many artists turn to imitation of totalitarian aesthetics, but in the case of Anatoly Gankevich, imitation of mosaic, pathos in the spirit of Deineka is not falsehood and not the birth of a new servility. Obviously, this is just an attempt to create a gaming therapeutic space, an imaginary mausoleum, where socialist art knows no decline and terror, capitalism peacefully coexists with communism, and the world, unlike the real one, is ruled by love - for the Motherland, of course. The artist's works are in the State Russian Museum, as well as in many collections.
