Geshtoff Leonid (1883, Odessa - 1941, USA).

Russian and American artist, representative of impressionism. Born in Odessa. He received his initial artistic education in Russia. During his studies, he met D. Burliuk, who became a close friend for life. In the 1910s, he emigrated from Russia and lived for several years in Cairo, where he painted genre scenes and views of Egyptian cities. These works brought the artist fame in Europe, which was fascinated by Orientalism. In 1916 he moved to Holland, the homeland of his favorite artist V. Van Gogh. He held several personal exhibitions in Amsterdam. In 1918 - 1923 he traveled around Indonesia. In 1923 he settled in the American state of Pennsylvania and became a US citizen. He led an active creative life, enjoyed success and recognition, participated in numerous group exhibitions (including with D. Burliuk) and organized a large personal exhibition in 1925. A master of landscape painting, his favorite motifs were sea and mountain views.
