People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Full member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Academician of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 1939, A. Gorsky was accepted by competition into the newly organized MSHS (Moscow Secondary Art School). Together with the school he was evacuated to Bashkiria in 1941. In 1946 he entered the Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikova. In the 1960s, A. Gorsky began to participate in youth exhibitions. Among the first works shown were “Valya Gerasimova from Pereslavl-Zalessky” (1949), “Resurrection Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin” (1951), “St. Basil’s Cathedral” (1951). The first compositional canvases were paintings on themes of Russian history, inspired by the brilliant opera “Khovanshchina” by M. Mussorgsky. The single cycle consisted of six works: “The Last Days of the Freemen of the Streltsy”, “Hidden Rus'”, “Girls of the 17th Century”, “From the Past of Moscow”, “Dawn in Moscow of the 17th Century”, “Martha’s Fortune Telling” (1951-1952). Gorsky’s paintings “Missing in Action” were dedicated to the theme of the Great Patriotic War. 1946." (1962), “Every inch of the earth. 1941” (1964), “Soldier”, “Harsh time. 1941” (1967-1969). Events related to the war, the breath of which scorched Russia, could not help but worry the artist. Gorsky also worked on paintings from peaceful life: “Among the Ripe Loaves” (1983), “Morning in the Village” (1986). The series of paintings “The Last Residents of the Village of Martus” is dedicated to the theme of an empty village. From small villages in the outback of Russia, young people are gradually moving to large cities, leaving old, lonely people behind. The artist managed to capture the stern, sad faces of the last inhabitants of the departing Russian villages. A.P. Gorsky worked fruitfully in the portrait genre. In the portrait of M.I. Kurilko (1953), the artist captured a personality highly revered as “a peculiar phenomenon that came from the times of the High Renaissance.” The artist also created portraits of the passionate promoter of theater culture, theater expert M.N. Pozharskaya; an enthusiastic admirer of N. Roerich, Dr. S.A. Mukhin; subtle connoisseur and collector of works of art G. Farmanyants; Bolshoi Theater actor A. Krivcheni. In 2002 The publishing house "White City" published an album dedicated to the work of A.P. Gorsky. The master’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, in the Russian Museum, in all the largest museums in our country, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad..
