Mikhail Petrovich Grachev became interested in photography as a schoolboy. He graduated from an evening technical school that trained photojournalists. In 1936, on the recommendation of M.I. Ulyanova was enrolled in the staff of the Izvestia newspaper. Filmed the construction of the Great Fergana Canal and other construction sites. During the Great Patriotic War, he was in charge of the Izvestia photo laboratory and worked as a photojournalist for the Evening Moscow newspaper. He often traveled to the Kalinin and Western fronts, visited besieged Leningrad, and the North Caucasus. During the difficult period of the defense of Moscow, he filmed near Volokolamsk, Istra and Tula. Since 1949, employee of the Soviet Union magazine. Awarded medals.
