Grandi Vasily Ivanovich

Painter and artist of monumental and decorative art. He studied at the drawing school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts under N.K. Roerich, A.A. Rylova, N.S. Samokisha. Since 1915 – participant of exhibitions. Exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Association of Artists named after. I.E. Repin (1929), the Zhar-Tsvet society (1929) and others. In 1922 he moved to Moscow, draws posters, and fulfills orders. His illustrations to the works of N.V. are especially famous. Gogol, A.S. Pushkin. His landscapes are becoming increasingly popular. The artist becomes a participant in many metropolitan exhibitions. He is interested in decorative painting. At this time, he created the canvases “Autumn”, the series “Ancient Russian Architecture” (1919-1920), “Gopak” (1928-1929), “Holiday on a Country Street” (1937), imbued with optimism, sincere fun, and love of life. He made picturesque plans for dioramas at the State Historical Museum and the Museum of the History of Moscow. But he gains greatest fame as one of the main artists who restored the panorama of academician F. Roubaud “The Heroic Defense of Sevastopol in 1953-56.” To carry out the plan, artists with extensive experience and high skill were involved. Restoring the panorama was a task in which a large team participated, but one of the leading places was occupied by V.I. Grundy. The works are in a number of museum collections, including the State Historical Museum, the Museum of the History of Moscow, the Battle of Borodino Panorama Museum and others.
