Son of A.M. Gritsaya. He studied at the Moscow Secondary Art School (1963-1969), then at the Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikov (1969-1975) with A.P. and S.P. Tkachev. He worked in Moscow and was strongly influenced by his father. Like his father, he worked in the genre of landscape and portrait. He turned to nature as a means of philosophical reflection and generalization. A.A. Gritsai was recognized as a leading young realist of the 1970s and 1980s. The artist's works are in many private collections in Russia and abroad.
