Theater artist, painter, poster artist, graphic artist. He studied at the Stroganov Central Art and Industrial School (1897-1907), then at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture with K.A. Korovin (1907-1916). He worked as an artist at the Bolshoi Theater, participated in the creation of scenery based on sketches by K.A. Korovina. During the 1900s He worked a lot in painting and graphics, painted portraits of artists, actors, as well as still lifes. In the 1920s. created political and propaganda posters for public holidays, sketches of scenery and costumes for theatrical productions of the 2nd studio of the Moscow Art Theater, the Bolshoi Theater, and the K. Stanislavsky Opera House. In 1924-1940 was the main artist of the Maly Theater.
