Russian and French painter. A figure of the first wave of Russian emigration. Known as a master of portraiture, stage designer, book illustrator and designer. In 1918-1922 he studied at the PGSKHUM-VKHUTEMAS. After moving to Paris in 1922, he took lessons from Emile Bernard. Since 1928, he exhibited in salons: Tuileries, Autumn Salon, National Society of Fine Arts. In 1930-1944, he collaborated with the Parisian magazine France Illustration. In 1941 and 1943, at exhibitions in the Palais de Tokyo, he exhibited portraits of outstanding dancers, famous ballerinas and popular artists. From 1950 to the end of the 1960s, he lived in the United States. He held solo exhibitions in San Francisco (1951, 1954), Stanford (1954). In the early 1960s, he returned to France. In 1966, he was awarded the gold medal of the Salon for the painting "Threats", the award was presented to him by the Minister of Culture of France André Malraux. The artist's works are kept in many museums around the world, including the State Hermitage Museum and the State Russian Museum.
