Kalmakov Nikolai Konstantinovich

Kalmakov Nikolai Konstantinovich (1873, Nervi, Italy -1955, Chelle, France).

Theater artist, graphic artist and painter. He studied painting on his own, having received home education. He has participated in exhibitions since 1906. The artist’s work is imbued with mysticism and is associated with the traditions of European symbolism. He designed many performances based on plays by L. Andreev, F. Sollogub, O. Wilde. Performed easel works and bookplates. Exhibitions of his works took place in St. Petersburg in 1913 and in Reval in 1922, as well as in Brussels and Paris over the next thirty years. Kalmakov’s works are in regional galleries in Russia and Ukraine, as well as among foreign collectors.
