Kalmykov Grigory Odiseevich (1873-1942)

Russian landscape artist. Born in Kerch. In 1889 he was a student of I.K. Aivazovsky in Feodosia, in 1893 he graduated from the Odessa Drawing School, where he was a student of K. Kostandi, and from 1893 to 1895 he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and was one of the most talented students of A. Kuindzhi. In 1895 he received the title of class artist of the 3rd degree, and in 1897 - the title of artist. In 1900, a personal exhibition took place in St. Petersburg; in 1901, he demonstrated his works in Munich. Since 1910 he was a member of the society named after. Kuindzhi. Lived in St. Petersburg (Leningrad). He painted mainly landscapes on a marine theme, and often traveled to Crimea. His brushes include such works as “Moonlit Night in Kikeneiz”, “Foggy Morning”, “Surf at the Iron Cliffs” and “Twilight”. In the 1930s painted several paintings for the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic and for the Museum of the Leningrad Mining Institute. He died in 1942 during the siege of Leningrad. The works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the State Museum of History of St. Petersburg, etc.
