Kamenev Valerian Konstantinovich (1822 - 1874)

Russian landscape painter, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Since 1841 he began studying at the Imperial Academy of Arts as an outside student. In 1848 he was awarded the title of non-class artist, and from that time he began to exhibit his landscapes at academic exhibitions (1850 - 1853, 1857 - 1864, 1867, 1874). In 1857, for the painting "View of the Island of Goloday near St. Petersburg" he received the title of academician. In 1859 he traveled around Europe, during which he visited Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and from where he brought back many sketches and studies. In 1859-1864, after returning to Russia, he began teaching drawing. The author's works are presented in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Taganrog Picture Gallery, the Sochi Art Museum and other museums in Russia, as well as in private collections.
