Kandaurov Anton Ivanovich

Russian artist and illustrator. From 1881 to 1884 studied at the Odessa Drawing School, from 1884 to 1885. at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture as a volunteer student, where he received a large silver medal for painting from life. In 1885 he entered the Academy of Arts as a volunteer student. In 1887 he was awarded a medal for his work on the “battle class”, and in 1888 - for the painting “Artillery on the March during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878”. Since 1894 he studied with A.I. Kuindzhi, from 1895 he studied at the mosaic department under P.P. Chistyakova. He received the title of class artist of the 3rd degree for the paintings “Challenge (Western Cossacks challenge the enemy to battle)” and “Fire”, in 1896 - the title of artist for the painting “After the funeral feast at the grave of the Scythian leader (Feast of the Dead)”. In 1895-1895 received the right to a pensioner's trip from the Academy of Arts. Anton Kandaurov lived in St. Petersburg, Tiflis and Yaroslavl. In 1901-1907 he headed the Tiflis Art School, organized with his participation, and taught there. The artist exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Academy of Arts, the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, and the World of Art (including in Berlin in 1896). Performing artist of the Bolshoi Theater (1887-1889) and the Maly Theater (1920-1926). Illustrated the works of A.S. Pushkina, I.A. Krylova, M.Yu. Lermontova, L.N. Tolstoy. Around 1910 he completed a number of historical and allegorical paintings for the temple-mausoleum in Plevna.
