Kandinsky Vasily Vasilievich

Kandinsky Vasily Vasilyevich (1866, Moscow - 1944, France).

Painter, graphic artist. From 1886–92 studied at the Faculty of Law of the Moscow University, then in 1897-99. in the studio of A. Azhbe and F. Stuck at the Academy of Arts (Munich). Founder of several artistic associations in Munich - “Phalanx” (1901), “New Association of Artists” (1909), “Blue Rider” (1911). Exhibitor of the first exhibition of the “Jack of Diamonds” (1910). Member of the World of Art association (1921). He taught in Moscow and Munich. Organizer and director of MZhK (1919), member of GINKHUK (1920). Since 1921 - Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1921-33 - Bauhaus professor. One of the founders of abstract art. His works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, many regional museums and private collections.
