Soviet sculptor, master of easel and decorative-monumental sculpture, artist. People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2007). In 1947 he graduated from the Yerevan Art School. In 1955 he graduated from the sculpture department of the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial School. Since 1957 - member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Since the 1950s - an active exhibitor of city, regional, all-Union and international exhibitions. Participant of more than 130 art exhibitions. The master's works are kept in museums and private collections. Monumental works by Zh.M. Kankanyan are installed in many cities of Russia (including on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow) and abroad.
