Kaufman Karl

Kaufmann Karl (1843 – 1901/1905).

Austrian painter, landscape painter, orientalist, master of architectural views. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He signed works both with his own name and with pseudonyms (Charles Marchand, L. Van Howe, B. Lambert, C. Carlo, etc.) He became widely known primarily as the author of Italian city landscapes depicting Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples, as well as thanks to a series of views of Salzburg. A separate theme in the artist’s work is the depiction of views of Eastern cities - both real and imaginary. Kaufmann's works regularly participate in major auctions, including Sotheby's and Christie's, and are kept in private collections around the world. Panoramic landscapes against the backdrop of Venetian architecture are one of the favorite subjects in the works of Karl Kaufmann. It was Venetian landscapes that were in particular demand among customers during the master’s lifetime.
