A representative of Russian Art Nouveau, famous at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries for his landscapes, genre scenes and portraits. He studied at the Central School of Technical Drawing (1896–1900), at the Academy of Arts with A.I. Kuindzhi and V.V. Mate (1900-1902), in Munich with S. Holloschi (1902-1904), with R. Julien and F. Colarossi in Paris (1905). Until 1920 he lived and worked in St. Petersburg, and from 1920 - 1939. – in Tallinn, Estonia, where he opened a painting studio. Since 1900, he has participated in exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts, the Society of Russian Watercolor Painters, and the Association of Artists of Traveling Exhibitions. Member of the Kuindzhi Society (1909-1920). Member of the permanent committee of the Roerich Society (Tallinn, 1937), which included famous Estonian artists: E. Taska, A. Starkopf, I. Grenberg, I. Vazar, A. Tamm, R. Niemann. The most important task of the committee was to promote the ideas of the movement for the preservation of national cultural heritage. In 1939, the artist emigrated to Germany. The artist's works are kept in museums and private collections.
