Full member of the Academy of Arts. Russian painter close to the Itinerants. He studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Promotion of Arts under I.N. Kramskoy, at the Academy of Arts (1867-1877) in St. Petersburg. He taught at the Stieglitz School of Technical Drawing (1883-89) in St. Petersburg, from 1893 a full member and professor-director of the battle workshop of the Academy of Arts. Author of the historical painting "The Military Council in Fili", which reflected one of the most important moments of the Patriotic War of 1812, as well as a series of battle paintings on the themes of the Russian-Turkish War (1886-95). The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum.
