Clerg Lucien

In 1949 he began to study photography. In 1953, he met Pablo Picasso and for a year and a half sent him his photographs, listening to the master’s advice. The friendship with Picasso lasted until the artist’s death. In 1968, together with his friend Michel Tournier, he founded the Arles Photographic Festival, which has since been held there annually in July. In 2003 he became a knight of the Legion of Honor. In 2007, he was the first photographer to be elected a member of the French Academy of Fine Arts. Participant of hundreds of personal and group exhibitions in Europe and America. A large number of albums and monographs are devoted to his work. L. Clergue's works are in many significant museum and private collections around the world.
