Russian artist, academician, teacher and museum worker. The son of the famous sculptor Peter Klodt, the cousin of the landscape painter Mikhail Klodt. He studied first with Alexander Agin, then at the Imperial Academy of Arts with Alexei Markov (since 1852). For the painting "The Last Spring" (1861), he was awarded the Grand Gold Medal of the Academy and sent abroad as a pensioner: he worked in Paris (1857-1860) and Munich (1862-1865). In 1867 he received the title of academician, in 1872 — the title of professor. He was one of the founding members of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (since 1870) and the Society of Russian Watercolorists (since 1887). He taught at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1865-1867, 1875-1913) and at the Baron Stieglitz College. From 1895 to 1914 he served as a restorer at the Hermitage. The works are represented in major Russian museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery (the painting "The Sick Musician" marked the beginning of her collection).
