By his main profession, M.V. Konchalovsky is a pianist, Honored Artist of Russia, a student of Emil Gilels, the author of more than twenty concert programs combining works of painting, poetry, music in a single stage performance, as well as more than 40 television films. A talented and multi-talented person, being the great-nephew of the famous Russian artist Pyotr Konchalovsky (1876-1956), he has been involved in fine arts since early childhood. In his words: “My mentor and adviser, both then and subsequently, was my aunt, my mother’s sister, the artist Tatyana Maksimovna Konchalovskaya. She graduated from VKHUTEMAS in the 20s, studied with Yuon, Osmerkin, Kardovsky. Later - with the wonderful painter Nikolai Pavlovich Ulyanov, a student of Serov. At the age of 5, my parents noticed that music also aroused my interest. perfect pitch, and I entered a music school, but the desire to paint never faded in me." The emptiness of cultural life, the blatant illiteracy of the population in the field of art, the general bad taste that arose in the mid-80s of the last century influenced M.V. Konchalovsky’s decision to open in 1993 a higher educational institution that was fundamentally new for Russia in the educational system - the Academy of Fine Arts (Institute of Artistic Creativity), of which he is the rector to this day. The artist's works are in private collections in Russia, France, Germany, and the USA.
