Korolev Alexander Leonidovich

Korolev Alexander Leonidovich (1922 – 1988).

Russian Soviet painter, monumentalist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, member of the Leningrad Union of Artists. Born in the city of Soligalich, Kostroma region. Before the war, he studied at a secondary art school in Leningrad at the Academy of Arts. Then he was accepted into the Academy. In 1955, together with A. A. Mylnikov and V. I. Snopov, he participated in the creation of the monumental mosaic panel “Abundance” for the lobby of the Vladimirskaya metro station. Based on Korolev’s sketches and his technology, a unique stained glass window in St. Petersburg was created for the lobby of the Gostiny Dvor station. Based on his sketches and with his participation, a number of monumental works were created in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities. He paid great attention to teaching, created his own training system, the “School of Drawing according to the Korolev system,” which is based on the principles of the old masters, the experience of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Until his death he taught at the Institute. I. E. Repin in the workshop under the guidance of his great friend A. A. Mylnikov.
