Korolev Vasily Andreevich

Soviet painter, graphic artist and teacher, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, representative of the Leningrad School of painting. In 1929, he came to Leningrad and enrolled in an art and industrial college, after which he remained there as a teacher. In 1933, he became a student of preparatory classes at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the All-Russian Academy of Arts, and in 1934 he transferred to the first year of the painting department. He studied drawing with Mikhail Bernstein and Semyon Abugov, painting with Alexander Savinov. In 1940, he graduated from the Institute in the workshop of B. V. Johanson, having submitted his thesis "The Commissioner's Speech", received the title of an artist of painting. He also held the title of associate professor. Korolev was awarded the Order of the Red Star and medals "For the Defense of Leningrad", "For Military Merit", "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." In the spring of 1947, he was demobilized and returned to Leningrad, where he was accepted as a teacher at the Department of Drawing at the I. E. Repin LIZHSA. The artist participated in exhibitions of Leningrad artists and members of the LOSH (Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists). In the post-war years, he combined teaching with creativity: he painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes, collaborated with Lenizo and the Leningrad branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR. Vasily Korolev's works are in many museum collections in St. Petersburg, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
