Russian artist, painter and graphic artist, author of social and symbolic images in the spirit of the “Wanderers”. Brother K.A. Korovina. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1876-1886) with V.G. Perova, I.M. Pryanishnikov and A.K. Savrasova. V.G. had a great influence on the formation of the artist’s creativity. Perov. S.A. Korovin was a member of the Union of Russian Artists. He experienced the influence of impressionism and symbolism, but, nevertheless, remained faithful to the Itinerant principles of realism. He painted paintings on sensitive social topics, genre and everyday sketches. In 1887 he made the transition together with the Sumy Hussar Regiment, and based on the impressions of the campaign, he created a number of works on a military theme. His later works are close to the poetics of romantic modernism. He also acted as a magazine artist, collaborating with the magazines "Rainbow" and "Russia" (1883-1884). He worked as a book illustrator; his most significant series of illustrations for “The Overcoat” by N.V. Gogol (charcoal, 1901, Tretyakov Gallery) remained unpublished. Since 1888 he taught at the Moscow School of Painting and Painting. Works by S.A. Korovin are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums
