He was educated in St. Petersburg, then Paris, where he entered the Ranson Academy and studied with Pierre Bonnard and Maurice Denis. From 1918 to 1932 Kramarenko worked in Ukraine. The All-Ukrainian Academy of Arts elected Lev Yuryevich as professor of the monumental painting workshop. After the academy was transformed into the Kyiv Institute of Plastic Arts, Kramarenko became its rector. Soon, together with the artist A. Taran, he realized the idea of creating a new artistic association - OSMU (United Current Mitzi of Ukraine) with its focus on avant-garde Western art, which was joined by V. Palmov, A. Petritsky, A. Bogomazov, art critic S. Ernst, artists from Kharkov, Odessa, Zhitomir.
