Kramskoy Ivan Nikolaevich

Kramskoy Ivan Nikolaevich (1837, Voronezh province -1887, St. Petersburg).

Russian artist, critic and art theorist. In 1857 he entered the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. He initiated the “revolt of the fourteen” (1863), headed the “Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions” (1870). He worked as a portrait painter. In 1863-1868, Kramskoy taught at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum.
